Ingredients
rava/sooji (semolina) - 2 cups
thick butter milk - 2 cups
grated carrot - 1/2 cup(optional)
chana dal - 1/2 tsp
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
chopped green chillies - 2
chopped cilantro - 2 tsp
hing - a pinch
Salt - to taste
cooking soda - 1/2 tsp
ghee/oil - 2 tsps
Method
1. heat 1 tsp oil,fry rava for few mins without burning and transfer it to bowl.
2.Heat 1 tsp oil in same pan,add chana dal n fry till light golden brown ,then add mustard seeds,cumin seed and once they splutter add green chilli,carrot and fry for a min.
3.Add this to the rava and let it cool ,once cool add the buttermilk and blend it nicely to semi thick batter like idli batter.
4.Add salt,cooking soda to this batter ,and mix well.
5.Grease the idli plates with ghee or oil.
6.Now put 2 tbsp of batter into each idli mould depression, and stack the racks one above the other and steam in the pressure cooker or steamer for 15min on medium flame.
7.Remove them carefully from steamer and let it cool, take a sharp spoon and scoop them out into the plate.
8.Your rava idli is ready.Offer to the Lord with any chutney.
